Before we started Montauk Hair Co., we spent our summers diving in the ocean and letting our hair dry on the beach in Montauk. When we went out at night, we noticed that our hair looked and felt amazing. We even started taking dips in the ocean before nights out just to get that look that only nature could give. No products could properly recreate it.
Creating Ocean Hair® Texture Treatment was the first step, but as we dug deeper into the architecture of hair, we learned that there are many variables in our daily haircare routines that affect how our hair looks, feels and behaves.
With the ocean as our guide, we set out to create a routine that makes amazing hair achievable every day.
The Ocean Hair® System starts in the shower. About 85% of U.S. households have hard water coming out of their shower heads, which deposit minerals like calcium and magnesium onto the hair and scalp. This buildup changes how hair feels and how products perform. Water quality, leftover product, and pH levels all affect the final result of a haircare routine.
A strand of hair has two key layers: the cuticle and the cortex. The cuticle is the outer layer that controls volume and surface texture. The cortex is the inner layer that gives hair its shape and movement. Our system is engineered to work with both to rebuild the hair’s architecture.
